ON-CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL GRAD STUDENTS IN MINNESOTA
Assistantships are the most common method of on-campus employment for graduate students. In many US graduate schools over 50% of graduate students, including international students, hold graduate student assistantships. These may include teaching, research, or administrative/professional assistantships.
Typically, teaching and research positions are most often available through the department or college in which the graduate student is registered. In some areas, such as mathematics, foreign languages and literature, for example, graduate students may be hired from other from other graduate programs. Libraries, residences and dormitories and Student Services may also hire graduate students as administrative/professional staff.
Hourly employment is another option. International students may secure a position as a tutor, exam proctor, note taker or child care provider.
